All About Arabica Coffee

Blaze coffee is made with one hundred percent arabica coffee, but what does that mean?

Arabica coffee, or scientifically Coffea Arabica, is believed to be the oldest cultivated coffee bean species on the planet and makes up about sixty percent of all global coffee production.

The arabica coffee plant thrives best at an altitude of approximately 1300-1500 meters above sea level, giving it the nickname “mountain coffee”. The plant takes about 7 years to fully mature, but starts to flower after about 3 years. Around this time the pant must be carefully cultivated and trimmed in order to produce the optimal harvest in it's following years. Subpar coffee results from picking the fruit too early or too late, so it is often picked by hand to ensure quality. Arabia beans are grown all over the world. Some of the most notable arabica coffee producing countries are: Jamaica, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Ethiopia.

Most gourmet coffee is made with arabica beans, however due to global warming the future of the indigenous arabica coffee plant is in danger of depletion. Climate change of rising temperatures and increased drought will affect the preferred consistent rainfall that the plant tends to thrive in. Growers are working on new strains that can better cope with these changing growing conditions, however who is to say they will have the same flavour you know and love?

Coffee has been around for centuries and arabica is the oldest, you can read about the history of coffee here.

But it might not be around forever so drink up and learn how to keep your coffee it's freshest here.
