Keep that Blaze Coffee Ridiculously Fresh

As you may or may not know, coffee beans are the seed of a fruit that grows in high altitudes among some hard-to-access parts of the world. From there it is bagged and shipped thousands of miles to our master roaster who blends art and science to turn this green bean into the roasted perfection you find in every one of our Blaze Coffee blends. From there you grind and brew your morning cup of joe.

The reality is that your grinder and coffee maker controls only a few of the variables that determine the quality of your coffee. On your end, something to keep top of mind is your grinder, grind level, brew style and when you do brew your coffee. The latter one is the easiest to gloss over and perhaps the most misunderstood.

There isn’t a definitive answer for how long coffee is going to stay fresh for. The current standard timeline is about two weeks give or take after roasting, but there are many variables to consider. We know what the primary causes of coffee going stale are and we’re going to help you keep your coffee as fresh for as long as possible.

There are two ways coffee loses its quality, by de-gassing and growth of undesirable compounds. Prior to being roasted coffee beans carry the same level of carbon dioxide as the air around them. After they are roasted the carbon dioxide can represent up to 2% of the beans weight. From the moment the roasting process has ended, gas starts to leak from the bean and the release of this gas leads to the loss of the coffee’s aromatics and thus the oxidation of the beans. The bad taste from your coffee could be due to oxidation and the age of the beans.

Since oxygen is the mortal enemy of your precious beans, leaving them in the bag is your best bet. Our bags come with a one-way hole for de-gassing and allowing the carbon dioxide to escape and keeps oxygen out of the bag. It will also keep your bag from exploding due to the pressure. This ensures that your bag is filled primarily with carbon dioxide that is released in small amounts.

The carbon dioxide in the bag will act as a blanket over your beans and keep the oxygen from getting to them, even if you are constantly opening and re-opening the bag to make your Blaze Coffee, you won’t be losing much of your protective carbon dioxide. Now if you are one of those people who transfer their bean to a brand new container, realize that you will be losing all of that preserving CO2 and bathing your beans in Oxygen.

As stated earlier Coffee stays fresh for about 2 weeks and then the quality drops off quickly after that.

Happy Drinking!
