Coffee and Covid-19

Coffee and Covid-19

In these turbulent times it is important to stay healthy and safe. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends staying home whenever possible, practising social distancing and washing your hands.

Back in 2015 the WHO decided to remove coffee from the list of possible carcinogens and since then studies have been done that show that there even may be health benefits to moderate coffee consumption. Drinking three to five cups of coffee, or about 400 milligrams of caffeine, is associated with a lower risk of mortality. Specifically coffee has shown to provide positive effects towards type two diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and various liver conditions like cirrhosis, liver cancer and chronic liver disease. The liver is one of the body's primary defences against infectious disease, and having a healthy one is an important for defence against threats like Covid-19.

With trying to have a disease free sterile environment you might think the hotter the coffee the safer it is, however this might not be the case. The WHO found that drinking coffee, or other beverages, that are 149 degrees Fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius) or hotter can increase the risk of esophageal cancer, not to mention potentially cause burns. Covid-19 is the most dangerous for people who have underlying conditions, like cancer, that result in weakened immune systems.

With the new reality of Covid-19 we all have to do our part of staying safe by practising social distancing. If you are stuck at home, why not relax with a nice cup of Blaze coffee and have confidence that it can help keep your body healthy through these trying times.
