The Perfect Grind

The Perfect Grind

To get the most out of your Blaze coffee beans you're going to need to grind them to release all that flavour. With so many different ways and styles of coffee grinds it can be a bit confusing about which is best for your needs. The deciding factor is ultimately what method you will be using to brew your coffee, but first lets talk about different grinders.

The most common and inexpensive style of grinder is a blade grinder, or coffee mill, these are similar to blenders and work by pummelling the beans with a set of rotating blades to get the desired grind. The main problem with this style of grinder is the inconsistency that can come between uses. The determining factor for how fine the grind will be is how long you run the grinder and even then the consistency of the grinds will be variable with some being lager than others.

The other style of grinder is a burr grinder. These work by having two grinding surfaces that are a set distance apart and will only allow grinds of that size to pass through, resulting in very consistent and repeatable results. Burr grinders are also the only way to get the super fine grind consistency needed for Turkish style coffee. The downside to burr grinders is that they can be expensive.

When should you use different grind styles?

Coarse grind : Great for french press and cold brew style coffee makers
Medium grind : Best for drip machines with a flat bottomed filter
Medium-fine grind : Best in drip machines with a cone filter
Fine grind : Used in stove top espresso pots
Extra fine grind : Needed for espresso machines

Start your day by releasing the amazing flavour of Blaze coffee, by brewing a fresh cup
